When Anushka Sharma came into the world of films, it was the Yash Raj banner who took her in and gave her first film which also went on to become a hit, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. However, she also had to sign an exclusive three-film contract with YRF which bars her from working with any outside production house. This has put poor Anushka Sharma in quite a frenzy and the actress is now getting extremely restless as she wants to take on more work.
As of now, the actress is working alongside Shahid Kapoor in Parmeet Sethi’s next feature with Yash Raj in Hyderabad. However, she has made it extremely clear to the director that she wants to finish up shooting for the film as soon as possible and then sign on her last film with Yash Raj so she can finally sign a film outside the banner. The films location will soon move to the U.S. without a break which works for both Anushka and director, Parmeet.
Rumor has it that many directors have shown an interest in Anushka but due to her contract constraints, she is unable to take any projects further. Her spokesperson went on to clarify, "Anushka is happy with her Yashraj contract. She is free to do films outside the banner. She dislikes talking about projects that are in the pipeline and will talk about them when they hit the floor." Amidst all this, the grapevines claim that Anushka is dating co-star Shahid Kapoor which they both have yet to confirm.

Sanjay Dutt Irked With Ajay Devgan

There is a strong buzz going around in the industry circles that Ajay Devgan, who wants to release All The Best, is planning to shell out Rs 50 lakhs if he wants his film to hit the theatres on October 16, the same day as Aladin, Blue and Main aur Mrs Khanna. Even a few tabloids have reported this today. However, this decision has not gone down well with Sanjay Dutt who stars along with Ajay in the comic caper All The Best directed by Rohit Shetty.

Reveals our source, “Sanjay Dutt already has two major releases Blue and Aladin this year lined up on the same date, October 16th during Diwali. Now he is in no mood to have a third release on the same day too. He is very upset with Ajay Devgan and is discouraging him from releasing the movie on Diwali.”

Anthony D’Souza’s Blue will see Sanjay Dutt in an action role where as in Aladin he will be seen as the bad guy called Ringmaster. Both the scheduled films are big budget starrers and Sanjay Dutt does not want to take any chances with them. He has been banking on these films for quite some time now, especially after a hit-less two years.

Sonam Kapoor - All Set To Play Sahibaan

It was said about the legendary Sahibaan that when she stepped out into the gallis of Punjab, the nine angels that guard the spheres died on seeing her beauty. And Sonam Kapoor, Bollywood’s IT girl, is all set to play the ethereal Sahibaan in an ambitious screen adaptation by filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.

While there have been many screen adaptations in Hindi and Punjabi of legendary romances like Heer-Ranjha, Laila-Majnu and Sohni-Mahiwal, so far no prominent film in Hindi is based on the Mirza-Sahibaan love story. And it’s probably because of the complicated nature of their relationship. According to sources, the idea came to Rakeysh during the making of Delhi-6.

“Rakeysh would address Sonam as ‘Bittu’, the character she played in Delhi-6. Then suddenly one day he started calling Sonam ‘Sahibaan’. At first Sonam was baffled by this new name from Rakeysh who would pamper her to no end. But as the historical perspective and the literary antecedents of the character began to seep in, Sonam grew excited about the project and began to pester Rakeysh about the project,” said the source.

R Madhavan’s Love For The Alphabet ‘T’

R Madhavan who has just recently delivered a decent hit with thriller film, 13B or Thirteen B as you may call it now has at least three more films with each having titles starting with well you guessed it right, ‘T’. Madhavan may well have his fourth film with a ‘T’ beginning as well since the title of that film is yet to be finalized. This film is Navdeep Singh’s (of Manorama Six Feet Under fame) spy thriller being produced by Mukesh Talreja and Nikhil Advani which has Madhavan playing a key role along side Akshay Khanna and Shahana Goswami. Maybe, the producers and director are in search of a name for the film, beginning with ‘T’. And if that happens well it would definitely mean, Madhavan feels safe in T-Company.

How life changes after that is what the film is all about.”

Right now the actress has no other film on the anvil. “I am waiting for the right project. I am going through scripts. I am a student of Shiamak Davar’s dancing school and would love to show this side of my talent too. I have a lot of Tamil Films on hand which I am busy completing I am doing a Tamil film titled Muthira. It is also a Vikram Bhatt film directed by a famous cinematographer called Jeeva. Akshay rejected nearly a dozen suits sent by the fashion designer Shabina Khan and purchased a new one costing Rs 5 lakh. And the director Sabir Khan and producer Sajid Nadiadwala didn’t say no to him.

A source from the unit said, “Akshay was shooting for his introductory scene in the film. Shabina had sent nearly a dozen suits, each priced at approximately Rs 1.5 lakh. But Akshay didn’t like any suit. There was chaos with everybody wondering how to resolve the problem since Akshay was supposed to shoot for the particular scene in a few hours.”

Finally, Akshay and Sabir decide to go to shopping. The source later added, “The scene also has Kareena Kapoor. Kambakkht Ishq also stars a few prominent Hollywood actors. Akshay obviously wanted to look suave so he chose a suit, which was much more expensive than what Sajid had imagined. But Sajid is a magnanimous producer. He and Akshay are quite close. In fact, they went to the same school where Akshay was one year junior to Sajid.”

However, the source close to Sajid Nadiadwala’s production house confirmed, “Yes. This did happen. Akshay didn’t wear any of the suits sent by Shabina. But that’s okay. Such things do happen during films shoots. Akshay chose a superb black suit with a hint of blue. It’s a unique piece.”

SRK Honoured With Malaysiya’s Highest Civilian Award

This is SRK’s first overseas trip after the 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack. He is in Malaysiya to receive the nation’s highest civilian award called Datuk.

A good friend of the actor revealed, “It’s an award conferred to him much before the Mumbai tragedy. But, SRK is in no mood to celebrate. His heart is in Mumbai and the actor has requested a quiet ceremony. He doesn’t want the media to highlight this either.”

Shah Rukh Khan is the first foreign actor to receive this highest civilian award of Malaysiya.

John’s very angry after Mumbai attacks

John Abraham was recently seen inaugurating food and wine show my magazine Upper Crust and represented the never-say-die Mumbai spirit who bounced back after the attacks.

However John is quite angry, “I’ve been born and brought up in Mumbai. I may be smiling and laughing now, but I’m so angry that I can beat up someone,” says John.

Although the media is being criticized by many for minute by minute coverage of the attacks which helped the terrorist and informed them about every external move, John is quite happy with them.

He says, “This is the first time I’m saying this — the media has done a fabulous job. You guys were very good.”

Not very well known writer Shobha De has vent out her anger against A graders of Bollywood like SRK, Saif, Hrithik, Akshay and Salman as they chose to keep quiet on the Mumbai terror issue.

She writes in her Facebook article, “I read ‘Shah Rukh Khan’s on BBC Asia’ (reported in a local tabloid) with a great deal of disappointment. The report begins by quoting him stating, “I tried to keep away from commenting on all this…” He later goes on to say, “Youngsters need to understand Islam and respect the religion in the right way….” Yes, Shah Rukh! You are not telling your fans something they don’t know! Also, “……..no agenda should be attached to any kind of religion.'’ Thank you SRK, for stating the obvious. And for being so very politically correct…. non-committal ….during the most violent attack on Mumbai - the very city that has made you. I wanted to hear some words of comfort for those who died; some strong condemnation of those who committed this crime. This report made no mention of any such thing. And it was the only published comment from SRK to date.”

The writer who is known to write gibberish in a fiesty way says, “SRK is no ordinary Bollywood star. Others from his fraternity have spoken up boldly. Why such a wishy-washy response from The King\Badshah etc etc?? This is the time for people like him, Sachin Tendulkar and others who preen away as ‘National Icons’ at other times, to stand up and be counted. Look at RGV’s arrogant and offensive stance even today - boycott his lousy films and teach him a lesson. The Taj is not a potential movie set he needed to study for art direction! Most of the filmwallas owe something to someone sitting in Dubai.

“No wonder they have been so cautious and guarded in their response. Cowards! All they can think of are overseas’ box office returns (they make the most money in those markets). Dhanda has silenced their conscience. Amitabh(the same man who helped her sell her lousy novel by unveiling it.) sleeps with a gun under his pillow, and then says it is a symbolic act! Aamir weighs his words with care. Salman stays chhhup (just as well). Akshay, Hrithik, Saif…… lost your voices all of a sudden??”

Well you are doing the same Shobhaa madam, instead of gaining publicity by blasting others you can do something good by actually doing something instead of just writing and blaming. Just writing and speaking boldly about the attacks in papers and blogs is not inspiring and helping anybody, if you really wanna be bold step out from your lousy homes and work for the betterment of the country.

Accolodes have been coming in from all quarters as both John and Priyanka ignite the heat in their pursuit for acquiring best bodies in the town.

“While John has worked hard on his physique and made sure that heads (belonging to both women and men) turn around him wherever he goes, I am not surprised since he seems to have been born with a six pack abs.

What amazes me though is the strange body that Priyanka Chopra has”, says Tarun Mansukhani, debutant director who is beginning his innings with this Karan Johar production.

How exactly?

“Well, she eats so much and doesn’t even work out much. Still, she manages to hold her figure. I guess it’s her metabolism that allows her to be this way. With DOSTANA, she could well be termed as a sexy girl next door”, smiles Tarun.

Abhishek seems to be just the same though as in all his films, isn’t it?

“In fact Abhi too has gone through some transformation as he was still working on DRONA when DOSTANA began. He was in fact the fittest since even when John would be tired, he would push him to get back on his feet and face the camera”, reveals Tarun.

But he doesn’t seem to be flaunting his body the way John is in the film. Why is that case?

Defends Tarun, “See the film and you would know for yourself. The kind of body type that he is carrying is something like is required for the character. It is truly in conjunction with the film. Dia Mirza : Biography

Dia Mirza Handrich, popularly known as Diya Mirza or Dia Mirza, nicknamed Dee, (born 9 December 1981 in Hyderabad,Andhra Pradesh, India) is an Indian model and actress and Miss Asia Pacific for the year 2000. She was also second runner up in the Miss India 2000 beauty contest.

Her father was a German interior designer; her mother is Deepa Mirza, a Bengali. They separated when she was six years old. Her father died when she was nine and her mother remarried: Ahmed Mirza whose surname she took, died in 2004. Though she has been brought up in a Muslim household, she does not consider herself a Muslim; in response to a question asking which Hindu deity 'appealed' to her most, she replied Ganesha. When living in Khairatabad, Hyderabad, she attended the Vidyaranya, a school based on the teachings of Krishnamurti, and later Nasr School,in Kushnuma. Currently, she lives in Bandra, Mumbai.

She made her cinematic debut with Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein opposite R. Madhavan. The film was not a box office success. A series of unsuccessful films followed, among them Tumsa Nahin Dekha and Deewaanapan.

In 2005, Mirza appeared in Parineeta, a Vidhu Vinod Chopra production. In 2006 she teamed up once again with Chopra and Sanjay Dutt for the successful film Lage Raho Munna Bhai. She also played in the music video Kajara Mohabbat Wala from Sonu Nigam album Kajara Nite.

She has also appeared in Dus and in Fight Club. She will appear later this year in Familywala and Naa Naa Karte.

The gorgeous Sen sisters are coming together for a film for the first time in Rituparno Ghosh’s adaptation of Tagore’s novel Nauka Dubi and they will do some scenes together in the film because Raima Sen feels that the audience would definitely appreciate that.
“There’s no way the audience will accept me and my sister in the same movie without having scenes together. In the original story our characters don’t come together at all. But Riya and I have to come face to face in our first film together.”
Riya and Raima were supposed to come together earlier in Vicky Chopra’s Seasons Greetings. But that didn’t work out. It was an episodic film and they just had a small segment to work in.
Also, Raima who is to be credited for bringing this project together does not want her film to be dubbed in Hindi. She says, “I know how strange it sounds when my Bengali films are dubbed into Hindi. Bollywood Gossip : It's Akshay Kumar's biggest release this year making it to the big screen and one reason is because its running at a record number of screens with shows begining as early as 7am in the morning.

What do most people normally do early in the morning? It is generally have their morning tea or read newspaper but this wasn't the case this Friday.

This Friday there was a 7am screening of Singh is Kinng. It's the first time that a film's show has been screened so early in the morning.

There were 85 people who had come to catch Akshay Kumar's Singh is Kinng, first day first show. It was the first of 28 screenings at a Mumbai multiplex. Other multiplexes are screening it as many as 40 times a day.

That means, on an average, there's a screening every 45 mins.

This is first time ever that a Hindi film's carpet bombing theatres in such a big way to maximise first weekend earnings. Often the decider between a hit and flop.

Last year with four successive hits Akshay Kumar laughed his way to the bank. With this release Bollywood's current king seems set to continue his reign

"There are groups of 500-600 people who have completely booked the theatre for the weekend the response is amazing," said Rakesh Sharma, Manager, Cinemax Sion.

And people seem to be just loving Akki Happy Singh. "It was great. Akshay is very funny, Katrina is beautiful."

Well, as far as the box office fate of the film goes, one will have to wait and watch this space.

An Interview with Neha Dhupia

Although well-known for her ‘bold’ movies and even ‘bolder’ roles, Neha Dhupia is yet to make a place for herself in Bollywood.

Appearing with Rajpal Yadav in her last film ‘Rama Rama Kya Hai Drama’, Neha has now made her audience speculate how long she would last in Bollywood. Undeterred by such reports and rumors, Neha has taken her career in Bollywood as a struggle and is determined to stay here.

Currently, Neha is pinning her hopes on Rajat Kapoor’s recently released film ‘Mithya’. We met the actress

to know more about her, especially the unknown facets of her life. Here are the excerpts of the interview:

Q: We’ve heard that both Ranvir and Vinay used to pull your leg a lot on the sets and they had even made a ‘jhandulal’ crown for you?
A: No, this is not true. Actually, ‘jhandulal’ is a song and they had never made a crown by that name. I felt nice working with them and can’t really express how happy I was while working with them.

In fact, Ranvir and I used to fight so much on the sets that it often became difficult for Rajat to handle the situation. He used to often say that it was easier to handle kids, but not us!

Q: Naseeruddin is such a veteran actor that you’ve grown up watching him. How did it feel doing the role of his moll in the film? Were you hesitant?
A: You are absolutely right. Before going to the sets, I was really nervous and uneasy, but once on the sets, Naseeruddin made me feel so easy that I never felt that I was working with a great actor and a legend. I feel that the matter became much easier as Rajat was the director and he made me feel comfortable.

Q: On what basis do you select your roles?
A: When the story of a film makes me feel bore, I don’t accept the film. And to a large extent, I depend on my experience while selecting films and roles. After all, I am also a human being who has learnt from her mistakes.

I don’t regret making mistakes as I have learnt a lot from them. I can assure one thing to the audience and that is from ‘Mithya’ they would be seeing me in good and meaningful cinema only.

Q: Do you think that your last two films “Sheesha’ and ‘Julie’ has had a role in projecting you as a sexy actress?
A: No, I don’t think so. Today even if I wear a salwar-kameej people say that I look sexy. However, like many others, I don’t take this as a compliment.

I have received a compliment that is unique. During the question-answer session after ‘Mithya’ was screened at the ‘Osian Film Festival’, a female critic came up to me and openly said, ‘Neha, I have watched many of your films, but I feel that after this movie, you have emerged as an excellent actress’.

Q: On what basis did you choose your last film ‘Rama Rama Kya Hai Drama’?
A: Actually, when I had read the story of the film, it attracted me. Unfortunately, the final product did not turn out that way. Moreover, I am not responsible nor do I have a hand in a film being good or bad.

There are many times when I have to accept films for friendship sake, but now I have realized that it is often wise to say ‘no’ to some offers.

Q: Which are your other films after ‘Mithya’?
A: After ‘Mithya’ I am acting in Vipul Shah’s ‘Singh is King’, Ashwin Nair’s ‘Maharathi’, Rajat Kapoor’s ‘I am 24’ and ‘Raat Gayee Baat Gayee’ made by Pritish Nandy Communications.

I have a very interesting role in ‘Singh is King’ where my co-stars are Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and Ranvir. In ‘Maharathi’ I am working with Paresh Rawal, Boman Irani, Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri.

In ‘I am 24’ I have Rajat Kapoor and Ranvir opposite me, while Rajat Kapoor is again my co-star in ‘Raat Gayee, Baat Gayee’.

Q: What kind of roles would you prefer to perform in the future?
A: First of all let me make one thing clear to all and that is I am not familiar with the past of Indian cinema. I don’t even know the names of many olden days’ heroines, so how can I say that I would like to do roles done by them.

I can only talk about the films I have seen and the performance that I have watched. I would prefer some ‘hot’ roles done by Julia Roberts and Marilyn Monroe.

In addition, I would also like to do a role done by Kareena Kapoor in ‘Jab We Met’.

Q: We have noticed that you have shed a lot of weight. Is this makeover for your personal satisfaction or for any character in any film?
A: Losing weight is every woman’s dream. Many a times our look on the screen is real, but there are times when the camera does the trick. My mother has inspired me to lose weight.

At the age of 53, she has shed 13 kilos in four months. When I saw this I asked myself, if she can do this, why not me.

I promise you that when you come to interview me next time you will find me even more slim and trim.

Q: Tell us something about your dream home that you purchased recently in Goa.....
A: That is not my dream home. Actually, my dream home is very costly, so I purchased a cheaper home. And as far as Goa is concerned, I love the place very much.

If I had my way, I would have worked five days of the week in Mumbai and flown off to Goa for rest on Saturdays and Sundays. Anyways, now that ‘Mithya’ is released, I will go to Goa for a break.

Q: Although your sense of humor is great, what is the reason that you have not been offered any comedy film?
A: Even I don’t have an answer to this. Everyone, including you and I, know that I deserve a comedy role, but it hasn’t happened so far. May be, people will realize my potentials after watching ‘Mithya’.

I am yet not sure that when so many directors feel that my acting is good, why they don’t offer me good films and good roles. Anyways, my struggle is on and I am sure that some day I will surely emerge a winner.

Q: What is the reason that big banners are not making any offers to you?
A: I feel that people are still obsessed with my ‘Julie’ image and cannot come out of it. Anyways, I am certain that like everyone, I too will have my share of the sun.

My time will also come someday. I am also sure that ‘Mithya’ will prove to be a landmark film in my career. - Rajnee Gupta

Amitabh Bachchan the ‘superstar’, in other words ‘God himself’; since ages people have watched him act and talk. He is an actor who can mesmerize and hypnotize a person with his mere existence. Today is Amitabh Bachchan’s 65th birthday. From his 20’s to his 60’s he has been a performer and continues to be one. To some he is a muse, for many he is an inspiration but who is his role model, his inspiration?

Amitabh Bachchan went to Sherwood College in Nainital. No matter what he did, he knew that his father would support him at all stages. Amitabh grew up with his share of female admiration and adulation. He was no different than any teenager, with his ever-charming smile he sure won many hearts.

Acting occupied a corner of his heart even then. His play performance had won him the best actor’s award, which no doubt he treasures even today. Although now he owns a whole collection of them. One such performance was what he was eagerly waiting for; he practiced until perfection. He was to play the role of a judge in an Agatha Christie play titled ‘And Then There Were None’.

On the final day of his act he suddenly felt dizzy and was confirmed with measles, he was restrained to a room. He no longer could do the play, disappointed and dejected, in solitude he sat in the hospital room to hear the play. The play was about to begin…with every minute his heart sank. And suddenly the door opened and in walked his father. His father spoke to him for the next two hours in order to distract him. It sure was not easy seeing another actor say his lines, wear his costumes. But that day he learnt the most valuable lesson of his life told to him by his father, ‘Jeevan mein apne mann ka ho toh acha hai, apne mann ka na ho toh zyada acha’. (If life goes your way, well and good. If not, one mustn’t worry as it’s not in one’s control…it is in control of the Almighty and the Almighty will do nothing to harm an individual.)

At the crux of the moment those words did not make any sense but later he saw the enormity of those words. For when you are 20, you do not see logic, but when you are 30, you do. You’re turning a year older. What’s your plan for the day?
I don’t plan much on my birthdays. We are quite an underplayed family. We like to stay at home. We like calling close friends over and then head out to a restaurant. I don’t like going out that often. But on my birthday, I’m forced to go out. What I look forward to, are presents from my friends. But my friends can be very cheap; sometimes they don’t give me good presents. However, most of the time Karan (Johar) and Adi (Aditya Chopra) get good presents for me. I hope they bring some nice electronic gifts.

What gifts did you get last year?
Karan got me a computer. A friend of mine gave me a Louis Vuitton bag. Let me tell you, I have a fetish for bags, especially handbags. Adi gave me camera. I got some really nice pens - Amitji (Amitabh Bachchan) had given me a beautiful pen. He has asked me to use it on Kaun Banega Crorepati. I will use it when I film for it next year.

Do you write with those pens?
I write a bit but not with those pens, as they are nice and expensive ink pens. I like keeping good pens and whenever I need to make notes, I use them.

Do you practise any rituals on your birthday?
I do pray to my parents for their goodness and their blessings. I think of my parents’ pictures and then go on my rooftop to say a little prayer. I believe that they are these two stars in the sky. I thank them for having given birth to me…. I pray for my family - my sister, my wife, my children and my friends.

How were your birthdays when you were a kid?
Now that you ask, I don’t remember throwing any birthday parties. We were not rich enough to waste money on parties. But I remember my father giving me some of his old things. I think he couldn’t afford to buy me new things. On my 12th birthday, he gave me his Olivetti typewriter. I was too young to learn typing, but I used it very carefully. On another birthday, he gave me his Grundig gramophone, which I could never run.

Have you preserved those gifts?
I wish I had. When I was moving out of Delhi, I had to leave in a hurry. The only thing that I could bring back with me is a Videocon TV that my mother gave me. I have my TV somewhere. Every once in a while, I think: Where is that typewriter and where is that gramophone? Every few months, I feel that I should go back and find them.

What are the craziest gifts you have received so far?
Last year on my birthday, I went to a party hosted by my friends. They gave me 41 gifts. There were a few crazy ones, too -- Badshah lal mirchi powder, and strange stuffed toys, etc.

What does your wife give you?
My wife is very cheap. She doesn’t give me anything. She says that she has given me the kids.

What about your kids, Suhana and Aryan?
My daughter is very sweet. She picks up tid-bits from the house and wraps them up neatly. She writes a beautiful card, saying ‘I love you papa. Happy birthday!’ She will paint something that I always put up in my office. My son doesn’t gift me anything. He just comes up and says ‘Happy birthday, papa.’ My son forgets. I sympathise with the girls who complain that their boyfriends don’t get them any gifts. I wonder what it will be like on my son’s wedding anniversary.

Do you feel that you are 42?
Physically, mentally and emotionally, I feel I’m still 26 years old - that’s when I had come to Mumbai. I still feel I have to work hard. I feel the same enjoyment that I did when I gave my first shot.

Do you get annoyed when people call you ‘uncle’?
Actually, my kids’ friends call me Shah Rukh Khan. Not too many people call me ‘uncle’, but they will soon, I’m sure. Sometimes I’m taken aback when the kids call me by my name during our soccer sessions.

They usually say, “Shah Rukh can you pass the ball. We need to practise.” I wish they would call me ‘uncle’. My daughter feels awkward when her friends call me ‘SRK’.

SRK’s wishlist

• I want to make 10 beautiful films. I have no idea what they are going to be like
• I would like my son and daughter to beat me at all sports
• I will like them to be more educated than I am. I want them to have more knowledge than I do
• Make a beautiful film studio. I'm yet to acquire land for it

• Make public utilities and amenities for women all around the country

After Jodha-Akbar you shot an ad. Was it a deliberate effort to lighten the load?
Fortunately for me I enjoyed both equally. In fact I've enjoyed everything I've done so far. Jodha-Akbar has been tough. Luckily people are looking forward to it.

Some for the grandeur and ambience. Others so that they get an opportunity to throw some tomatoes on the screen. I'm happy everyone is motivated to come for the film.

You were quoted as saying you'd never do a historical again.
Not true. I might've said that in a specific context. But I'd definitely not do another one for a long time. It's such a momentous opportunity. Doing it again would make it less sublime.

When you think of period you think of a grandeur that's hard to replicate. I don't think I'd want to get into that space for a long time.

Has Joddha-Akbar been specially taxing?
None of my films has been easy. Krissh and Dhoom 2 have been as physically and emotionally taxing as Jodha- Akbar. I've enjoyed it so much. And I wouldn't do a historical for the same reasons that I woudn't do a Dhoom for a long time. Dhoom and Jodha-Akbar covered two genres exhaustively. Now it's time to move on.

But playing Akbar would be radically different from playing Buddha? Apparently Shyam Benegal offered you Buddha?
I'm sure Buddha would be a great subject and a wonderful characters to explore. But again playing Siddharth is about armours and horses. And I've been there done that.

The ambience, country and language would require a similar discipline for me. I wouldn't mind doing a period-fantasy like Pirates Of The Caribbean. It's always fun to bounce off into the other extreme.

Dhoom helped me to get excited and challenged about Jodha- Akbar. It was a challenge for both Ash and me. Now I want to do something entirely contemporary.

That brings me to the question of how open the audience is to watching Aishwarya and you do a costume drama after the fiercely contemporary Dhoom 2?
It's always a challenge for any actor to make the audience forget not just the outside world but everything that they've seen before on screen, to suck you completely into the magic of the moment and to make the audience exhilarated.

You are asking me if Jodha-Akbar does that or not. Only the audience can answer that.For me the film is already a success. The boxoffice is only going to be a bonus…hopefully.

This is your first collaboration with Ashutosh Gowariker.
Yes. My primary motivation for doing Jodha-Akbar was to mingle with a mind that'd be as alert and innovative as Ashutosh's.I knew he'd help me explore a different facet of my acting. He helped me go to places in my psyche I had never gone to before.It's been great fun.

Ashutosh is a damn good combination of intelligent preparation and spontaneity. He comes fully prepared. But has the guts to throw it out of the window if he so wishes. He has the power to turn the scenes around in your head. Sometimes he'd whisper a thought in my ear.

And my entire being would be reverberating with that emotion, and with the desire to express it in front of the camera. Then you look back on the shot and you whistle in admiration and pride. Different films offer me different tunings with the director. Jodha-Akbar has benefited me immensely as an actor.

You're doing a lot of ads. Do they provide the same creative sustance as feature films?
I give the same level of commitment to whatever I do. Otherwise I can't do it. It's not a matter in which I've a choice. Giving my best is the only option I have.

I'd say working in ads and feature films different and yet the same. Ads give you a chance to explore areas that perhaps feature films do not. The dimensions are smaller. It's quickly in and out.

One is able to experiment without having to shoulder the responsibility. An ad doesn't really affect your career. So it's more fun. As an actor it's my responsibility to put myself in spaces I'm not comfortable with all the time.

Is it a challenge to say the whole story on just 90 seconds?
That's the director's challenge. Sometimes it's restrictive for the actor. I don't think an actor should be asked to accommodate his discipline to the duration of the film. So ads do cramp you.

They don't allow the though process to flow that freely. It becomes a little artificial at times. And that's something I try to avoid at any cost.

Would you like to be a slip-in-slip-out actor?
I'd want that. I think acting is about developing your skills to such an extent that you can command it at your will.That confidence when you have the experience and the body of work. Hopefully some day I'll be slipping in slipping out and forgetting my roles once I'm done.

I don't look forward to that day.
I do. Believe me I do. That's why I enjoy doing ads. Like I said the responsibility lessens. I shoulder less responsibility and have more fun in ads.

Having to dance in all your ads…is that an irritant?
It might become annoying for viewers. I mean you may enjoy eating mangoes. But you can't keep eating them all the time. I think it's better to get cautious about the dancing before it gets excessively in-your-face. Now some of the ad-makers agree with me on this.

You like to work only with like-minded people?
Yeah. There's no point being okay with mediocrity.And you can only be heading towards mediocrity if the effort isn't collaborative enough.

Do you feel you'veso far achieved what you set out to ?
One of life's greatest lessons is that you never reach the summit. I've seen my dad achieve more success than anyone else. Mine pales in comparison.

I still see him tense fearful anxious unsure and ready to fight every time he starts a new film. I don't want to reach that summit where I say, 'Ah,I've arrived' Right now that place doesn't even exist in my head.

I did a lot of hard work and a great deal of healthy eating to get back into shape after Zene. I have always been a big eater so dieting was not my cup of tea. So, I broke my eating pattern into six-eight small meals in a day. Roti and rice was replaced with high fibre foods, while milk, milk products, chicken, dals , and egg formed the major portions of my diet. I never compromised on salads, fruits, vegetable soups. They not only added bulk to my diet but also gave me strength.

As I ate after every two hours, I had to compensate the calorie intake with workouts. Starting out after two and a half months after my delivery, I began my exercise with meditation and yoga to make my body get into the groove. Gradually my trainer introduced me to a variety of workouts including running, kickboxing and power yoga, which I did atleast 45 minutes a day, five times a week.

Tip: Don’t try to lose fast, give time to your body. Just make sure you eat healthy and be active not just post pregnancy but through the nine months as well.

“I ate what my doctor suggested and burned out the way my trainer guided me to. My gynae advised me to start up after 40 days, but I gave myself time to be with my baby and started working out post four months. Since I was nursing, so I ate whatever I craved for, keeping in mind the health parameters. It was a natural progression for me so any kind of protein shakes were a big ‘No’ for me. My workout schedule consisted of cardio, weight training, kick boxing, and walking for half an hour every day. After every workout, I not just felt lighter but stronger as well. Also, I was quite regular with body massages which relieved me of stress, helped in blood circulation and never let the fat get settled in.

Tip: Never cut out on any food if you are thinking of losing weight as I think you cannot maintain the weight loss. You rather attain that by restricting your diet.

“I put on what is considered fairly ideal weight -12 kgs, most of which I managed to knock off in the first six months; the last three being the most difficult to shed. I had to work really hard on it. As they say you cannot lose in three months what you put on over nine months. So I started working out once my son was two months old. In the beginning it was just cardio as my body had not been used to weights for a year.

After a couple of months I got a personal trainer and started weights, cardio and spinning and a lot of stomach crunches. This was when my original shape started coming back. Diet played a huge role. What worked for me was a high protein, low carbs, low fat diet plan. The problem with a post birth diet is that you need to eat moderately healthy if you’re nursing the baby. So one has to phase out the workouts and be realistic about the results. I consulted my doctor, read every possible book, went through every website to figure out the safe limits and went along with my natural body rhythm.

Tip: It’s neither possible nor safe to diet during pregnancy. You have got to be a paranoid freak to not want to enjoy the benefits and fun of being pregnant. So eat whatever you feel like but do not stop being active both during and after your pregnancy.

We must understand that the body naturally wants to lose weight post delivery. But what’s important to be noted here is that it is only the natural weight that body shuns on its own, not the kilograms that you put on through over eating the high calorie diet and lack of exercise all through the nine months.

So, in case you want to lose weight post pregnancy, it has to start right during the pregnancy. Post delivery, mothers should stop eating for two and start exercising. Points to ponder if you are looking forward to a balanced weight loss:
1. Don’t drink too much of milk just because you are feeding the baby. That milk doesn’t directly make mother’s milk. A diet rich in calcium, iron, proteins, carbs, fats and B complex makes milk in a mother’s body. And only skimmed milk is advised.
2. Fibre content should be pushed up. Include daliya, oats, brown rice and poha in your diet.
3. Avoid sugar and cravings for sweet things can be tackled with figs which are also a vitamin source.
4. Eat loads of fruits but only in between meals. Don’t substitute them for your main meals.
5. One teaspoon of ghee is enough.
6. Cut down on tea and coffee.
7. Last but not the least, don’t go sedentary, taking your pregnancy as a vacation and time to indulge in eating and resting.

Just a little bit of practical and rational eating during and post pregnancy and getting back to your normal shape is no big deal!

Time management is the key for a new mother. No doubts your baby needs your time, but ‘a healthy you’ is also important. So try and find out time for yourself no matter how and when. Don’t directly look forward to weight loss, but take care of the loads of other factors that lead to weight loss and soon you’ll achieve your target.

The body goes through a lot during pregnancy and it is still in the recovering mode post delivery, give it time. Quick fixes don’t work. Gradual and a more regular workout is what a mother should look out for.

The right way is to calm down your mind first with yoga and meditation for body and mind. Try out with things that interest you. If it’s a sport go ahead with it. One can join group classes and go for dancing and spinning. Don’t forget to go for a 30 minute walk with your baby and never compromise on giving adequate rest to your body.

“It’s just that I’ve been awfully ill. Like really really unwell… so in fact in the lead up to the awards ceremony I did tell Andre (Timmons), the director at Wizcraft, that I think I need to back out, that I can’t come. But he was like no you can’t. you have to. So because he is a friend of mine and a complete sweetheart I agree to do this for him. But obviously because I’ve been unwell I haven’t had the chance to shop or meet my fans or anything,” says the actress.

Power plants, politics, passion and power, ‘Sarkar Raj,’ is a powerful, hard hitting film that surpises and entertains. Considering the hype behind the ‘Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag’ sequel, I walked in thinking the house would be packed, but surprisingly I was only one of about 4 people in the theatre, so it was pretty hard to gage people’s views... But I really don’t understand why, because while it may not be a film for the lovey-dovey Bollywood masala fans, it is a superbly made film.

PLOT: Sarkar (Amitabh Bachchan) is the political king in his area of Maharashtra, India and his son Shankar (Abhishek Bachchan) rules alongside him. When Anita (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) comes in as the CEO of a power company with ideals to build a massive power plant in their village, Shankar is all for it, much to the disbelief of others. What ensues after that is a twisted tale of murder, deceit, and mayhem.

THE GOOD: Amitabh’s acting is exceptional as he proves why he is Bollywood’s biggest legend. Abhishek too excels in his hard hitting role and can easily be couted as one of the finest actors in his league. Aishwarya has definitely shown improvement (has she been taking lessons from her new fam?) especially in a pivotal emotional scene. The script is well written and takes you on an explosive and surprising journey.

THE BAD: The beginning is a bit slow as the plot of the film is set up. The talk of power plants and politics can get a little drawn out.

THE VERDICT: On a whole ‘Sarkar Raj,’ is an outstanding film with outstanding performances, an exciting script and a fresh new start for Ram Gopal Varma after the nightmare of ‘RGV Ki Aag’! This flick is a definite must watch!

What is the reponse for your chat show Inside Bollywood?
I am getting a positive feedback for the show. It is the first time that something like this has been attempted on Indian television. I get a couple of celebrities on the show who discuss one issue that affects the industry. It could be anything from addiction to censorship to sex. So far we have had Sharmila Tagore and Nagesh Kukunoor discussing the importance of censorship, Naseeruddin Shah and Tabu sharing their views on the pros and cons of being a trained/ untrained actor. My favourite episodes include Sanjay Dutt and Suniel Shetty talking about destiny, how Sanjay is destiny’s child and Sanjay Gupta, Madhur Bhandarkar chatting about real Vs reel inspiration.
What was the idea behind this show?
For a long time I had been wanting to do a chat show but never got the time. It was my wife Manasi who suggested we do something on the lines of the Oprah Winfrey Show. We came up with this format. It is among the first Rohit Roy Productions to go on air.

Wouldn’t it have got a wider reach on a general entertainment channel (GEC)?
Definitely. But the way we had designed the show, it suited the profile of Zoom. The channel focuses on Bollywood and lifestyle. However, since the format is mine, I may in future take it to a GEC.

Are you back on television for good?
No. As far as TV is concerned this is my last show. Maybe, if I am offered KBC I will host that. I am a huge fan of Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan and loved both the KBCs, though, given a chance, I’ll do it a little differently. Talking about SRK I must say, irrespective of what the ratings are, he is tremendous in ...Panchvi Pass.
Though I will not be seen on TV anymore, my company is producing another TV show, this time, a fiction Rang for Zee Next. It is a romantic comedy revolving around three girls and one guy. We have just started shooting for it. It will go on air sometime in mid-June. I must confess that the role being played by Shalin Bhanot, the guy who has the three girls (Chhavi Mittal, Karishma Randhawa, Manasvi) vying for his attention, was something I wanted to do badly. The role was designed on me!

What’s stopping you then?
I am concentrating on films now.

Your next release is Don Muthuswamy, right?
Yes. It’s an out and out comedy with Mithun Chakraborty playing a South Indian Don and me playing his manager. After Shootout At Lokhandwala, where I was one among many, this is a central role for me and I am quite excited about it. Also, it is the first time I am doing comedy in a film. Earlier I have done a comedy series Baat Ban Jaye on TV and I think humour comes naturally to me.

What is the film all about?
Mithun’s character, an extension of his role(South Indian) in Agnipath, is trying to turn into a new leaf. He has promised his father that he will be a good man. But I try to rip him off. Hrishita Bhatt plays his daughter and I have a new girl Anusmriti opposite me. Shooting was fun because all of us on the sets were Bengalis including the producer. It is produced by Shakti Samanta Films.

Any more films in the pipeline?
There’s Mittal Vs Mittal, which is about domestic violence. I have negative shades to my character. Rituparna Sengupta plays my wife. I am looking forward to Alibagh, where for the first time my wife Manasi is my co-star. I play a doctor in the film that traces the lives of nine friends who meet after a period of ten years. It is a beautiful emotional film. I have also signed a film opposite Celina Jaitley that is being produced by Sanjay Gupta. There’s one with Kalpana Lajmi who is directing a film with three simultaneous story tracks.

We’ve heard you are making a film Jazzba based on Woody Allen’s Matchpoint?
Yes, the film is loosely based on Matchpoint. But the title is yet to be finalised. Nandana Sen and me will be playing a married couple and I am in talks with Chitrangadha Singh for the role of the other woman. Let me clarify that this will go on the floors only after I finish directing a film for Sanjay Gupta’s White Feather Films.

Post Om Shanti Om (OSO) how has your life changed?All this is very new for me. My father (bandmintom champ Prakash Padukone) was also a celebrity. But we were never exposed to much media coverage.
Before I went into the modeling profession I did go into my dad’s profession it was the expected thing. I played bandminton at the national level.But I realized my heart was set on modeling.
Movies weren’t even in my range of vision. But after two years of modeling I started getting film offers I was only 18 then. I didn’t want to jump into anything.
What took you down south?You mean my Kannada film Aishwarya? I am from Karnataka and it was directed by a young and talented man Indrajit Lankesh. And I was paired with a huge Kannada star Upendra.
Did you speak your own lines?Yes I did. I learnt Kannada in school. Farah Khan had already offered me OSO. But we were to shoot a year later. So I did the Kannada film.
You remind me of Aishwarya Rai.I’d take that as a compliment. I grew up watching her. When I was in school I remember how thrilled I was when she won Miss World. Ash and Sushmita are people I’ve admired.
You’re still young. Don’t you miss doing the normal things?I do the normal things. I’ve life away from my work. But yes, I definitely feel a lot older than girls my age.I started working and moved out of home at a very young age. I tried to work out of my home- town Bangalore. But like it or not Mumbai is the mecca for the glamour and entertainment industry.
Do you miss Bangalore?In Mumbai I definitely miss my family. For me ordinary things like having warm food on the table or getting the car ready to leave for the day are not so easily obtainable. Like all girls I’d like to see my parents when I wake up in the morning. That isn’t possible when you’re living alone.
Is Mumbai a lonely city?No definitely not. I’ve lots of friends in Bombay. And I haven’t changed for them, nor they for me.Yes, certain people around me have changed. But people who are really important to me, that’s my parents and my childhood friends are with me.
One needs to have friends outside one’s profession to interact and to share one’s life with. Otherwise I’m not the party-hopping kind.
What do you and Ranbir talk about?Well…we do know what’s going on in each other’s careers. But otherwise we try to keep cinema out of our conversation. We try not to get into one another work space.
It’s amazing but both of you started your careers in Hindi as fierce rivals in Saawariya and OSO?That rivalry was more media-created than anything else. Comparing me with Sonam was so uncalled-for. We come from two totally space. We started differently. She assisted Mr Sanjay Bhansali.
I come from the modeling world. And our debut vehicles are so different. Fortunately we were too involved with our own projects and had no time to think of each other as competition.
You started with Shah Rukh Khan as a co-star. Can it get any bigger?I hope it does. Initially I was very nervous about working with him. But Farah and Shah Rukh made it very comfortable for me. We did readings together, we met socially so that we were comfortable when we faced the camera.He’s again someone I grew up watching.
You have acquired the reputation of being extremely choosy.Yes. Every project takes up so much of your time. You’ve to be sure of what you’re doing. So often I say no because I don’t have the time. I meet every director who wants to meet me. I do consult my parents.
It would be unfair to distance them from my career just because they aren’t part of the entertainment industry. But the final decision is mine.
Your dad is a celebrity in his own right.Yes but nothing to do with the entertainment industry. During his time sportspersons didn’t do endorsements, advertisements. I’m really close to both my parents.
Ever since I moved to Mumbai it’s a different kind of relationship with them. The fact that we live in different cities has brought us closer. I feel much closer to them. Sometimes I feel bad at the unwanted attention they get because of me.
They’re bombarded with all kinds of questions about me. It wasn’t like that during their times. My parents are very simple reason.
Is the image of the boyfriend deserter hurtful?The media needs to be a little restrained. I am a simple girl and from a respectable family. And loose talk about me harms my reputation.
One day like any other girl I intend to settle down and have children. How would those write-ups look at that time? I’m so glad I’ve found a man who comes from the same space and understands the pitfalls of sensational journalism.
I feel after a point no one will take these write-ups making a tamasha out of my life seriously.
Why did you and Ranbir decide to go public about your mutual feelings?Because this is the first time I’ve actually and truly fallen in love. Being in love is the lovelist feeling. When two people are getting close they need time to understand one another.
I’ve reached an age when I can’t be in a frivolous relationship. Linking me to so many men at a time when I wasn’t sure about my feelings was unfair.
Did the earlier link ups collapse because of excessive attention they got?Quite possible. At the end of the day it was just destiny that I was meant to be with Ranbir. And we’re very happy together.
Do you get time to be with one another?We try to be together as much as possible. We did a film together Bachna Ae Haeseon. That’s when we got close. We had met and interacted earlier. But we didn’t get a chance to know each other well enough.
He was busy with his film. I was busy with mine. We were both under all kinds of pressure. Everything became very messy.In Australia when we shot together we started afresh. We almost met like two new people.
There was no baggage to be carried forward from the past. Because even in the past we didn’t part bitterly

It was recently reported that Koena is the latest actress to be bowled over by a cricket star’s charm, and the object of her affection is none other than Mahendra Singh Dhoni!
Apparently, the Bengali bombshell and Dhoni took a fancy to each other at the hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani’s salon, Mad-o-Wot, in Bandra just days before he left for West Indies for the upcoming World Cup series was introduced to Dhoni..
Koena was at Sapna’s salon to try out a new look for a film, while Dhoni was getting his hair coloured before leaving for the World Cup. There was a definite flirtatious vibe between them, and they began chatting like old friends right after their first meeting.
It is interesting that Koena could identify Dhoni, despite her lack of knowledge and interest in cricket. Dhoni, for his part, was definitely excited about being acquainted with Koena.
He even mentioned meeting Koena to his teammates, who’ve taken no time in teasing the cricketer about his crush oops… brush with the actress. Interestingly, the duo also exchanged mobile numbers before parting ways. “It was quite sweet to see them interacting, since both of them are single and extremely hot,” adds a client who was present in the salon.
However, Koena on being asked about this latest brush admitted to meeting Dhoni at the salon. “Yes, I did meet Dhoni at Sapna’s salon, but I am not seeing him!” she said.
She added that she isn’t familiar with cricket nor takes interest in cricketers. “Honestly, I’m not a fan of the game.
I’m only really aware of players like Rahul Dravid and a few others because I watch their commercials on television. Other than that, I don’t care.”

Shree Astavinayak's Blue was being touted as one of the costliest films to go on floor. Going by the problems it is facing it might actually be, thanks to US consul officials. A little bird from Breach Candy, where the Consul office is, tells me that Sanjay Dutt's application for visa has been rejected. Sanjay was to go to Bahamas for the shoot and then later visit the States to introduce wife Manyata to daughter Trishala. Last month the Supreme Court had given him permission to travel abroad.Blue being directed by debutant Tony has a huge cast of Sanjay, Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta, Katrina Kaif, Zayed Khan, and Suneil Shetty and is budgeted at approx 70 crores. The film is an action thriller with a large portion of it to be shot in Bahamas. Over the past three months, all the main cast have already been trained in deep sea diving. Sanjay had also hired the services of Lawrence, a physical trainer from Los Angeles, for developing an 8 pack (abs muscles, not cigarettes). If the producers can't shoot in Bahamas they may have to shift the action to Thailand. But with IIFA being held there, rooms are tough to find till June 2nd week. And yes, juggling Akshay Kumar's dates is making the producers go blue and red.

Jannat star Sonal Chauhan’s boyfriend arrested for slapping her

Sonal Chauhan who made her debut in Bollywood recently with Emraan Hashmi in Jannat was allegedly slapped by her boyfriend Sahil Zaroo at the city Airport. Now we hear that Sahil Zaroo is being arrested by the Police for assault.
According to onlookers Sahil and Sonal met at the Santa Cruz domestic airport, and while Sonal was collecting her boarding pass for Hyderabad at the Jet Airways counter Sahil got into an argument and allegedly slapped her. Sonal Chauhan’s father was present there when this event occurred. The CISF personnel handed Sahil over to Santa Cruz Airport Police.
“Sahil snatched her mobile and tried to embrace her while she resisted. So we slapped theft and molestation charges against him,” said senior police inspector S M Ghuge.
Surprisingly, Chauhan registered a complaint in the name of Sonal Raghuraj Singh, 21. In her complaint, she said that she was a student. The Delhi court on Wednesday remanded Zaroo who was arrested under sections 323, 354, 448, 509 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code for assaulting Sonal. He was earlier accused of selling cocaine to BJP leader Pramod Mahajan’s son Rahul Mahajan.
